Kevin W. Sharer joined Foundation Medical Partners to focus on connected health venture capital investments. He has a long and successful track record in leadership, management and governance roles in innovative, fast-growing companies.

Most recently, he served as chairman and CEO of Amgen, the world's largest biotechnology company with a market capitalization in excess of $65 billion, for more than a decade. Before being appointed CEO, he served as president and chief operating officer after joining the company as a director in 1992. Under his leadership, Amgen successfully launched nine products, completed the biotechnology industry's largest-ever acquisition, and grew its annual revenues from $3 billion to $16 billion.

Prior to joining Amgen, he was an executive with MCI Communications Corporation and the General Electric Company and a consultant with McKinsey & Company. After training at the U.S. Naval Academy, he became lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy, serving on two nuclear attack submarines and overseeing one nuclear submarine's construction.

Kevin currently serves as a director of Chevron Corporation and Northrop Grumman Corporation. He previously served as a director of 3M Company, the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation and Unocal Corporation, and held chairman of the board positions for Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and the Los Angeles County Museum of National History.

He earned his M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and currently serves as a senior lecturer in business administration at Harvard Business School.
