Joanna Coles was named editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan in September 2012. With 64 international editions, Cosmo is the world’s largest magazine reaching more than 110 million readers worldwide. In September 2014, Coles added Seventeen magazine to her portfolio and was made an editorial director of Hearst Magazines.
Coles has spent the past two-and-a-half years reinvigorating the Cosmopolitan brand, reclaiming its stake in the culture as the ultimate, empowering guide for young women leading full lives. She partnered with Sheryl Sandberg to launch Cosmo Careers, and debuted a live conference series last fall in partnership with William Morris Endeavor.
Previously, Coles had been editor-in-chief of Marie Claire, where she increased the magazine’s circulation and orchestrated its partnership with Emmy Award-winning show “Project Runway.”
Coles has been widely recognized for her leadership in the world of journalism. She was named one of the most powerful magazine editors by Forbes, and has been repeatedly included in The Adweek 50, which honors the most influential people in media, marketing and technology.
