Dr. Don Rix is the Chairman, MDS Metro Laboratory Services, 1994 to present; Lab Director and President, MDS Metro Laboratory Services, 1970 to 1994. He is also founder and Chairman of Cantest based in Burnaby, BC. In 2007, Dr. Rix received the Order of Canada for his contributions to the life science industry.

Dr. Rix is an active member of the BC biotechnology industry having served on the board of many organizations including various biotechnology and technology companies. He currently serves on the Board of he University of Northern B.C., Canuck Place and BC Children's Hospital Foundation.

Dr. Rix recently received the Lifetime Leadership and Achievement Award from the BC Biotechnology Alliance for his contributions to the biotechnology sector and in November 2002, he received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award Medal.


Dr. Rix received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1953 and his MD degree in 1957. His education includes a Fellowship in General Pathology Canada in 1972, an Honorary Diploma of Technology from BCIT in 1985, and the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa from the University of Western Ontario in 1998.
