Claus has more than 20 years of experience in the high-tech industry and in the public sector. A physicist by training, he advises high-tech companies on corporate and business-unit strategy and productivity improvement. In the public sector, he advises governments on topics like economic development, fiscal reform, and education reform. Most of these programs have a significant component of capability building at scale.


Prior to joining McKinsey in 1993, Claus worked as a research associate at the Max Planck Institutes, an educator at the University of Colorado Boulder, and as a staff scientist at Siemens.
